EuroScience Open Forum 2024 – MSCA Satellite event

The Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions organised a training and networking event for their community back-to-back with the 11th edition of the EuroScience Open Forum.

It has now become a tradition for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) to organise a satellite event in the run up to the EuroScience Open Forum’s (ESOF) annual conference and exhibition, leading to rich intellectual exchanges around practical sessions, dedicated training and activities and promoting both personal and professional connections between participants.

To honour this year’s ESOF motto – “life changes science” –, the selected MSCA fellows, alumni, supervisors and project managers will be invited to spend one day and a half working on some of today’s most salient issues in science and society, through a mix of panel discussions, interactive workshops and trainings.

This year’s edition took place in Katowice, Poland, on 10 and 11 June 2024.

Programme

This edition’s programme included

  • training sessions with specialised coaches on science communication to different types of audiences (including children and policymakers)
  • practical exercises on the uses of AI for your research
  • hands on panel discussions on 
    • greening your research projects
    • collaboration between academic and non-academic partners
    • careers at the intersection of science and policy
  • high-level exchanges on the place and future of the MSCA in the EU’s research and innovation landscape
  • workshops and group discussions in which participants will be contributing to scientific or societal debates from their various (inter)disciplinary standpoints
  • networking and social activities and more
  • access to the ESOF 2024 conference and exhibition

Registration and practical information

Travel from and to the main airport or station of origin and accommodation (up to 3 nights) will be covered by the European Commission. Research fellows, alumni, and staff of all career stages, including coordinators, supervisors and research managers, are more than welcome to apply by 2 May 2024 midday, CEST).

Your application will be processed and confirmed by early May.

Please note that available places are limited. To allow us to make the selection between applicants, please prepare

  • a CV (1 to 4 pages, you are free to include a list of publications or not)
  • a short text (max 700 characters) stating your motivation to attend the event
  • References of minimum one and up to three research papers you find most interesting in your field(s) of interest (you may be the author of one or more of these papers, but you may also reference papers authored by others). This does not apply to policymakers or research managers.

About ESOF 2024

The 11th edition of the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF) took place in Katowice (Poland),  the European City of Science 2024, from 12 to 15 June 2024.

ESOF2024 is one of the most important international conferences, having an impact on the science and world transformation. 

During the event, scientists, entrepreneurs, politicians, journalists and inhabitants are going to discuss the latest scientific achievements, the arts and their impact on society. The participation in ESOF2024 is free of charge.
