Italy launches funding call for MSCA Seal of Excellence recipients and former postdoctoral fellowships researchers
The Italian Ministry of University and Research is promoting a new call to fund more than 250 young researchers who completed their MSCA postdoctoral fellowship or received a Seal of Excellence certificate.
The Italian Ministry of University and Research has launched a new call to fund over 250 young researchers who
- submitted a high-quality proposal to MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships and received a Seal of Excellence certificate within the past 2 years
- won a Postdoctoral Fellowships or Individual Fellowships project and completed it in the past 5 years

The ministry will allocate €67.5 million to these calls, which will support researchers wishing to continue their research and set outstanding projects in Italian universities and research organisations. The scheme is part of the country’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Call for MSCA Postdoctoral and Individual Fellowships grantees
This call will dedicate €30 million to fund at least 100 young researchers who submitted successful projects under
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowships under Horizon 2020, including Standard European Fellowships and Career Reintegration strand
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Postdoctoral Fellowships under Horizon Europe
Applicant researchers should have completed their MSCA project no more than 60 months before the date of publication of the call. Applications must be for a new project proposal that complements or builds on the research carried out during their MSCA fellowship.
Selected researchers will receive up to €300,000 for projects lasting up to 36 months.
The call will close on 1 October 2024.
Call for MSCA Seal of Excellence recipients
This call will dedicate €37.5 million to fund at least 150 young researchers who submitted an application for Postdoctoral Fellowships under Horizon Europe and received a Seal of Excellence certificate for their high-quality proposal in the past 24 months.
To apply, researchers will need to readjust the original proposal which obtained the “Seal of Excellence” together with their host institution.
Selected researchers will receive up to €250,000 for projects lasting up to 36 months.
The call will close on 19 December 2024.
Eligibility criteria
Individual researchers should comply with the following criteria
- they can be of any nationality
- have not yet gained a consolidated experience in managing research groups and do not hold a contractual position that ensures them a stable research career prospect
- at the date of the call publication are up to 40 years of age, or for candidates between 40 and 45 years of age, have completed the PhD within the last 7 years, and fulfill one or more of the following conditions
- are yet to acquire a first experience as managers of funds and/or research activities (e.g. as principal investigator)
- need to gain experience in leadership and management of a national or international research team
- do not have or have had a full time equivalent permanent contract as researcher and/or tenured professor before winning the MSCA grant
