Applications for a fellowship under the Supporting at-risk researchers with fellowships in Europe (SAFE) project, which has opened on 18 November 2024, are now closed.

The SAFE consortium has received 359 applications, out of which around 60 fellowships will be awarded. More information about the evaluation and selection process is available on the project website.

Selected researchers are expected to start their fellowship as of May 2025. They will either start a new project or continue previous work in pursuit of their research in the EU.

The SAFE project is the latest EU initiative to support researchers at risk and test the feasibility of a European fellowship scheme in the future. This 3-year project with a budget of €12 million will provide fellowships for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers at risk to continue their work in the EU.
