Lindau Meeting

The European Commission is offering a limited number of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions' fellows the opportunity to go to the 71st Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting in June 2022.

Since the 1950s, the southern German town of Lindau on the shores of Lake Constance has been the location for the annual Lindau Meetings. Bringing 30-40 Nobel Prize laureates together with 600 undergraduate, PhD students and post-doc researchers from all over the world, the Lindau forum is an invaluable opportunity to build lasting networks and exchange knowledge.

The 71st Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting takes place from 26 June to 1 July 2022 and as usual, the European Commission is nominating a limited number of Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions' fellows to participate.

People who wish to apply to attend through MSCA should carefully consider the selection criteria available when you follow this link to the Lindau-Nobel official web site. There is a multi-step application procedure so, before applying, carefully read the selection criteria for the 2022 meeting.

Necessary funding

The call for applications is open to both current (as of 1 September 2021) and past Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions' fellows. Of course, it is also important that applicants ensure that they have the funding necessary to meet their part of the costs of the event. This will be EUR 1 250 plus travel costs to and from the meeting. The Lindau organisers will bill this cost directly to the fellow in attendance.

Related costs must be paid by your organisation and/or through your Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions' project. We recommend that you get a confirmation from your organisation that these costs will be met at the appropriate time (March/April 2022). In cases where fellows have already finished their projects, they must ensure they have the funding necessary to participate.

Please note that, the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions are not offering travel or fee support for the event, merely the opportunity to attend.

It should also be understood that, if someone who has been selected to attend is not able to meet the costs, this place will be lost and no other MSCA fellow will be able to benefit from the opportunity. This should be an important consideration when applying.

Application Process

The application process to seek a nomination from MSCA to attend the Lindau meeting is a two-step procedure.

For the first stage, you will need to submit four documents:

  1. A statement of motivation. This should explain briefly why you think the participation will be beneficial for you, your research and your career, and your organisation (if relevant). This should be no more than 250 words in length.
  2. An individual letter or letters of recommendation which is roughly one A4 page, submitted as a pdf file (in English).
  3. A description of your achievements (and not a description of the institution)
    • A person who knows you well, e.g. supervisor of the Master or PhD thesis, should write the letter
    • The letter should indicate specific accomplishments in scientific work or in raising public awareness
  4. Your current CV.

In order to process this application, we also need a limited amount of personal information, please see the application form.

Deadline for Application

You need to send all parts of your application by Wednesday 13 October 2021, 17:00 CEST to EAC-MSCA-LINDAU@ec.europa.eu

The European Commission will make recommendations to the Lindau Committee in the last week of October 2021.

Second stage requirements

In the second stage, the Lindau Committee will ask candidates who the European Commission nominates to complete their profiles by 25 November 2021.

The Lindau Committee will take final selection decisions in mid-February 2022, with sufficient time for travel arrangements to be made.

We wish you success with your application.
