Science is Wonderful!

Celebrating European science

Practical information

Science is Wonderful! will take place on 13 and 14 March 2025 at the Africa Museum in Tervuren, Belgium.

Opening times

The fair will open each day at 9:00.

Please note that on Thursday, we will first welcome primary school pupils between 9:00 and 13:00 o’clock. And in the afternoon, we will open our doors to secondary school pupils between 13:00 and 17:00 o’clock.

In 2024, teachers contacted us and expressed their wish to have a quiet time of the science fair dedicated to older pupils. They hoped that this would contribute to deeper and more meaningful exchanges. You reached out to us, and we listened.

On Friday, all groups are welcome at any time.

Remember that small groups of visitors (<10 people), which includes families or other science enthusiasts, can attend at any time on both days.

Venue, accessibility and how to get there

The event will take place at the Africa Museum, a spacious venue located opposite Tervuren station.

The venue is accessible for visitors with disabilities.

You can reach the venue easily by public transport.

Use the STIB/MIVB planner to plan your trip by metro, bus or tramway.

Use the Belgian Railway Company SNCB/NMBS planner to plan your trip by train.

  • By bus: take the express T-bus 44, which departs from above the Montgomery metro station to Tervuren station.
  • By private bus: a parking area is available next to the venue if you hire your own bus.

Registration

Participation in the event is free of charge and open to everyone. Individuals and families can simply show up at the science fair – no registration is required. However, schools and large groups (10 people or more) must register in advance.

School teachers and staff members planning to attend with their pupils should register as soon as possible starting from 29 January at midday to secure a time slot.

During registration, you will have the option to request additional services such as free lunch for your pupils, bus transfers from your school, and seats at our science shows – subject to availability. For more details, see below.

Should you experience any problems during the registration or if you have any questions simply contact schools-SIW@cecoforma.com.

Language of the event

The event is organised in French, Dutch and English. Some research teams will be multilingual, but not all are. Bear in mind that they are traveling from across the world to meet you!

To make sure you can still engage with them and learn more about their work, 30 interpreters will be there to help. They will wear bright orange t-shirts and are happy to help.

Cannot find one in your moment of need? Then maybe one pupil or teacher in the group wants to save the day by helping to translate. No? No worries, you can always return to the booth at a later time when an interpreter is available.

While booths operate in multiple languages, science shows are only held in one language. The language will be clearly marked per show. We strive to provide you with a diverse offer but you might not always find a match. If that is the case, know this: the booths are also great!

Meals and picnic

The organizers are happy to arrange a free lunch for school classes upon request. You can make this request during registration, but please note that availability is limited. This service is designed to ensure the event remains accessible for everyone, so we kindly ask you to request it only if necessary.

If you have indicated that you would like lunch for your class, our team will contact you soon to confirm availability and discuss the next steps.

An indoor, heated picnic area will also be available at the event venue, providing a comfortable space for schools and other visitors to enjoy their meals. This area is open to everyone, including those who bring their own packed lunches.

Be aware though that the picnic area is smaller than in previous years. To make sure that everyone has an enjoyable experience, you will be able to reserve a timeslot at the cafeteria once you arrive at the event. If you requested a lunch and this request has been granted, you will automatically receive a pre-booked timeslot.

Additionally, water fountains will be accessible throughout the science fair.

Bus shuttle for schools

Free bus shuttles can be arranged for school classes, however, availability is limited. Priority will be given to groups with young children or those traveling from distant locations. Schools are encouraged to use public transport to attend whenever this is possible.

If you have requested a school bus, our team will contact you soon to confirm availability and discuss the next steps.
